Meditation facing the Himalayan peaks

A Himalayan Wellness Retreat, led by Ayesha Samji · Mukti Wellness Center

five elements, one waning moon, the quiet of the forest

High in the Kumaon hills, among oak and rhododendron forest and the long white line of the Himalaya, we spend five days returning to ourselves. Each day holds one of the five meditative cultivations of S.P.A.C.E, carried by one of the five elements, from the ground beneath our feet to the open sky.

The Five Cultivations

Day 1

Stillness

Earth

I arrive. I land. I rest.

Day 2

Presence

Air

I am here, breath by breath.

Day 3

Acceptance

Water

I meet what is, as it is.

Day 4

Compassion

Fire

I offer warmth to myself and others.

Day 5

Equanimity

Space

I hold it all with an open heart.

Under a Waning Moon

The moon is full on 22 March as you travel, then softens night by night through every retreat day: a natural season for release, rest and letting go. Look for her in the western sky as we greet the sunrise.

Your Wellness Journey

Each day, one cultivation, one element, one intention.

Day 1 · Tuesday 23 March — Stillness · Earth

Arrive at Binsar after the mountain drive to a warm meal and a welcome circle. Slow belly breathing with a long exhale. Body-scan Yoga Nidra, and your release list for the week.

Day 2 · Wednesday 24 March — Presence · Air

Sunrise yoga facing the setting moon. Full yogic breath and alternate-nostril breathing. The walk to Zero Point as a moving meditation, with ten minutes of silence among the peaks.

Day 3 · Thursday 25 March — Acceptance · Water

A flowing sunrise practice and ocean breath. From 9 am, we walk down through the forest, the way water travels, to a village homestay and share lunch with a local family.

Day 4 · Friday 26 March — Compassion · Fire

Sun salutations to kindle inner warmth. A two-hour loving-kindness nature walk. In the evening, the Aarti at Bineshwar Temple: a small flame offered in the mountain dark.

Day 5 · Saturday 27 March — Equanimity · Space

A slow, spacious practice and humming bee breath. Our closing circle and release ritual, letting go of what we carried in. Lunch together, then down to North House Hotel for our last night, with an early flight from Pantnagar the following morning.

The Rhythm of Each Day

Sunrise

Yoga under the morning moon

Morning

The day’s walk or journey

Midday

A slow, nourishing lunch

Afternoon

Rest, journal, wander

Evening

Moon breath and Yoga Nidra

Night

A light dinner, then the stars

May we rest upon the earth and be held.
May each breath bring us home to this moment.
May we flow like water, and warm like the flame,
and find, beneath it all, the stillness of space.
